sand and sawdust

This weekend Ocean Shores hosted a change saw carving and sand castle building contests.  Wow.  I’ve never seen anything like it.

Needless to say, the chainsaw carving was LOUD.  We didn’t stay long because it was really bothering the kids, but I went back on Sunday and took my time watching them carve and looking at the entrants in the "quick carve" category.  It’s a big deal this chainsaw carving and really fun to watch.

We spent considerably more time down at the beach watching them make sand sculptures.  There were "master" carving teams right down to families who showed up at the beach and decided to compete.  The master carvers are pretty darn serious about this with tons of equipment, forms, buckets, water sprayers, etc.  But in the end, it’s all sand.  Lots of fun.
