Another of my new year’s resolutions is to take care of my garden and yard a little more. I love to spend time in my yard but it does seem to take a back seat to absolutely everything else. Luckily I have Mr. Ho who comes and mows my lawn every week and takes care of the spring clean-up for me (not to mention teaching me how to cook smelt but that’s another story).
I’ve decided to follow the advice in Sunset magazine, the column about “what to do this month” in your garden. So this month I should be trimming back my sad little rose bushes and keeping the weeds down in the areas of bare soil. And I should be thinking about starting seeds by visiting Charley’s Greenhouse and Garden.
Don’t get me started looking at garden catalogs! Now I want a cold frame and this little number from Charley’s is just the thing I’ve been looking for. Now I know that with a little ingenuity and elbow-grease I could make one of these myself. But I’ve been saying that for years and it hasn’t happened so at $90 this is looking like a great deal to me. I could start seeds early and grow lettuce year round in one of these puppies.
But first things first. Put the Christmas decorations away. Okay, maybe not the penguins. They can stay out until Easter.
Okay, my sad little garden. This is your year!

It does look like the perfect thing for seedlings. ive learned over the years that there are times you realize you just aren\’t going to make that something and you\’re better off buyingit. Good luck, pix later?

I\’ll be looking for bunny ears on the penguins in a couple of months!I love the idea of a cold frame…maybe this year; maybe next…we had a really neat one when I was a kid that had an old window on a hinge for a lid.
