My son’s school has adopted The Virtues Project. When I first heard this I was somewhat skeptical. I think because it didn’t seem down to earth enough for elementary school students. But every classroom has a poster with all 52 virtues listed. Parker’s teacher refers to them when appropriate. Every month the school adopts a different virtue – they learn about it, they look for it in their classmates and they try to practice it. My son is listening and I like what he is hearing and learning.
This month the virtue is purposefulness –
Being purposeful is having a clear focus. Begin with a vision for what you want to accomplish, and concentrate on your goals. Do one thing at a time, without scattering your energies. Some people let things happen. When you are purposeful, you make things happen.
One of the problems that I (and many moms) have is staying focused, getting things done. I was reading my friend Moki’s blog today and her word of the year is just that, focus. I need to focus, but I need to take the next step as well. I need to focus and be mindful.
My word of the year is purposefulness. Maybe these thoughts aren’t as random as I thought.
Have you adopted a word for the year? Here is a nice starting point.

I hadn\’t heard of this project. Very neat! Good luck!

My word for the year is "persevere." Partly because I have trouble with the focus issue, starting things but never really finishing; and partly because it was something my grandmother always said.
