I know I’ve been in Hawaii for a week and my first post back should be about my amazing trip but I really want to mention the book I read while on vacation…

I had to have at least one book made out of paper for my trip so that I could have a book to read while at the beach.  I know, how old-school of me.  I read about The Elegance of the Hedgehog at the Sony Reader bookstore.  It intrigued me.  From the Barnes and Noble review:

One of her two Parisian diarist heroines is a concierge, the other a suicidal adolescent. They sound conventional, but that’s precisely the point: they both work very hard to achieve stereotypicality.

The meaning of life, philosophy, pastries, teen angst, a touch of Japanese culture, all set in an elegant and expensive French apartment building.

I couldn’t put it down.  My copy is now filled with folded down corners and underlined passages.  This is a book I know I will read again and refer back to many times.

I\’ve seen it on the bookshelf and just haven\’t picked it up to even look at the cover notes. I\’ll have to look at it more closely. Hope your vacation was good.

Sister Barb gave me this book to read last fall. I just haven\’t gotten to it yet. Barb is usually spot-on with her book recommendations, so thanks for the added incentive to read it!
