I go back and forth. Printing or stitching and printing and stitching. Often the two overlap in more ways than one.
This piece is a combination of a stitched fabric printed onto fabric and stitched. Perhaps it doesn’t make sense, but the end result is quite nice, if I do say so myself.
I chose kantha stitching for this piece. I was in need of something meditative and simple. This is similar to Japanese sashiko in that it uses a simple running stitch. Both types of embroidery originated with the need to mend or re-use cloth.
I chose colors I’d used when printing this plate on paper for the Print Zero print exchange. It’s interesting to see this plate done so many ways.
