I was going to title this post “tolerance” but I don’t just tolerate other’s points of view or religious beliefs, I try to understand them first. But this week I’m having trouble understanding a few things…
I’m having trouble understanding people like “pastor” Terry Jones. People who, in the name of their god, hate, disrespect and condemn other people to this extent.
I’m having trouble understanding why there has been so little fund-raising and charity work for the victims of the floods in Pakistan – flooding that has killed the equivalent of 80% of the population of Canada. Have you seen or read or participated in any fundraising for these people?
I’m having trouble understanding why Muslims are being asked to celebrate Eid, the holiest day of the year, quietly and without fanfare. Why? Because people might mistake their celebrations for a celebration of the 9/11 attacks.
This article is a wonderful perspective on understanding and tolerance. I’m glad I read it.
PS, the photo is from this site, where you will find some absolutely gorgeous photographs of Ramadan,

I love your post as well. We had a reading for Rosh Hashanah I may post that speaks to this as well. I get torn; I can understand those that don\’t want the mosque near the 9-11 site, but also have a feeling of why it may be a good and important thing to have one there. To say the Muslims involved in terrorism represent all Muslims is akin to saying that Christians who kill medical personnel involved with providing abortions represent all Christians.
