working with wax, part Two

Today I definitely got into the groove of monotype encaustics.  I started the day going back to basics, working on newsprint then transferring the colors from the newsprint to printmaking paper.  I added color to the non-wax parts using watercolor paints, the wax acting as a resist.  Then I used acetone transfer and more wax to added the black and white imagery and more bits of paper.  Many then got another layer or two of wax or wax thrown onto them.

I have often wished that my prints had more of a layered look to them so we’ll see if what I learned this weekend translates into what I’m doing in the print studio.  Or maybe I’ll just head back to NW Encaustics for a few hours…
